Dear Sue
Thanks for your question and welcome to Empowher - we're glad to have you!
Crohn's is a difficult condition to live with. Some have milder forms than others - for some, it's a daily challenge that can make life painful and frustrating.
People with Crohn's have a harder time breaking food down internally. The website Living With Crohn's Disease has a great section on what to eat and what to avoid. You can read all about it here : https://www.livingwithcrohnsdisease.com/livingwithcrohnsdisease/life_wit...
Here is their recipe page : https://www.livingwithcrohnsdisease.com/livingwithcrohnsdisease/life_wit...
I would recommend you buy a cookbook that is specifically geared towards your condition. I did a fairly extensive search for you and one of the best reviewed (I really depend on reviews before I buy anything or go anywhere!) I can find is "What to Eat with IBD: A Comprehensive Nutrition and Recipe Guide for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis " by Tracie M Dalessandro MS RD CDN.
The reviews are very good and it receives 4.5 stars out of 5. You may be able to borrow a copy from your local library.
Using these recipes should allow you to lose some weight, eat healthfully and avoid the side effects that acidic or spicy foods can cause.
Also, take a look at our Crohn's page here : http://www.empowher.com/media/reference/crohns-disease#definition
As a person living with Crohn's, we'd like your feedback on our page.
Let me know if you get the cookbook and what you think of the information I've given you. I wish you the very best!
