i have the flu and the flem i'm caughing up has blood in it what should i do

A small amount of blood in the phlegm of a person with upper respiratory illness is not considered abnormal. You may have bronchitis, where blood can sometimes be seen. A sinus infection or other infection can also cause blood in sputum/phlegm.

Of course, blood in phlegm can have very serious causes like cancer but if this is tied into your flu and it clears up along with the flu, you should be ok. If you continue to see this, call your doctor.
