Hi Anon

Thank you for your post!

I'm sorry to read you've dealt with breast cancer twice -that's a huge physical and emotional toll for anyone.

Dense breasts are pretty common and are more common in younger women but women of any age can have them. But a link has been shown between dense breasts and an increased risk in breast cancer. Dense breast are also harder to examine on mammograms.

Researchers still don't know exactly why some women have this dense tissue and some don't.

Some women go on to get an ultrasound and/or an MRI as well as mammograms when they have dense tissue. 3D testing (that you mention) is fairly new but if it's available to you then it's something to consider. My own cousin did this after finding a lump that couldn't be seen on a mammogram that was seen on an ultrasound (it was cancerous).

These are all options for you.

Please talk to your doctor about what your dense breast tissue means for you, particularly with your breast cancer history. You will need to be vigilant but regular testing can keep you healthy.
