I have been on the pill for over two years now. I used to take it every night at 9pm faithfully. But with recently moving states and the stress i kept forgetting to take it. So after i had a normal period on time i switch to taking it in the morning when i get up. but that isnt working either. ive forgotten to take through all the hustle and bustle of getting ready. well needless to say its not time for my period infact its really two and a half weeks early and im not even to my white pills yet. But thats no the only problem its not a real period to me. its more like spotting here and there and is sometimes brown in color and then again sometimes red like it usually is. And i wont bleed all day but then if i have sex per say i start bleeding for just the moment and then its gone again. before this started happening i was getting my period in the right time frame but gradually the days they lasted starting getting really short. the most recent of the short ones was 2 days long. I am really confused as to what is going on? any idea?

Amanda, so is what you're saying that you have missed a lot of pills this month and had unprotected sex?

Shorter periods when you are on birth control does happen sometimes. I wouldn't worry about that so much, as long as you mention it to your doctor the next time you see her or him. However, if it's been two months now that you have taken your pills in an on-again, off-again matter, that can mess with your hormones and mess with your cycle enough so that your body is confused about what it's supposed to be doing.

So have you had unprotected sex since your last period?

And if not, can you figure out a way (setting an alarm on your cell phone, maybe) to get back to taking your pills regularly without missing so you can get your period settled back in?

We're getting so many questions like this from our members that we're putting together a collection of resources, rather than repeating ourselves over and over. Stay tuned.
