Hello, my name is Kenda and I'm 18 years old with ovarian cysts on both ovaries. My cysts/tumors are so large that my stomach looks like I'm 4 months pregnant. I use to weigh 125 now i weigh 153 because of the cysts. Tomorrow I'm having surgery to remove the cysts and I'm terrified, I just don't know what to do and my doctors really suck and aren't providing me with any answers.

Hi Kenda,

Surgery can be scary, but with the removal of your cysts, you should see a significant change in your abdomen once any swelling from surgery goes down. However, I just want to emphasize how important it is for you to feel comfortable going into surgery. If you have any questions regarding surgery, what to expect before, during, and after, risks or complications-- i highly encourage that you call your doctors office today and have them explain it to you. If they can't explain it today, have them clarify any questions PRIOR to surgery tomorrow. In order to have surgery, you must sign something called an informed consent-- if you do not understand what is going on, or what your surgery consists of- do not sign it and ask for your doctor to explain and answer any questions you have, then you can sign it. One thing that I learned was that when I was younger I was afraid to ask doctors questions-- that was my mistake because it is your body and their job to explain your health condition in terms you can understand and feel comfortable with.

If you visit our Ovarian Cyst Removal page, you will find lots of information regarding surgery, possible complications, and the way the procedure is done-- https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/ovarian-cyst-removal-laparoscopic-surgery

Even though I'm providing you with this information I still want you to talk to your doctor regarding your particular surgery. :)
Please let us know how it goes!
