Q:

I have pain that I thought was from a backand neck surgery I had about 5years ago. The pain goes from my lower back down my legs. It also goes down my arm just above the elbow where I can't rest my arm down. I can't walk for long distances,

I can't sit for long periods of time or stand. I have been going to pain management doctors and taking narcotics for just as long with no relief to the point that I cry from the pain that is how much pain I am in. If I get 2 hours sleep at night that is alot. Can't lay on my stomach, my back and can only lay on my sides again for just a certain amount of time. My legs hurt so bad that when I walk I use a cane and that doesn't even help. I have gone to orthopedic doctors who say they can't find anything wrong. Have had MRI's that show nothing. I was told that I did have a blood clot on my right leg and do take an aspirin a day for it but have been told that that should not cause that much pain. I want my life back and am tired of not having a life because of this pain. Please I need help.

This is exactly what I'm going through. I am 41 years old, I wake up hourly from pain and turn side to side. I am on narcotic pain medication because of bad knees that I haven't even had checked out because I have no health insurance. My 87 year old Grandmother gets around better than I do. I am so tired of being in so much pain, and can barely stand long enough to shower. I had to drop my final nursing class to become an RN because I couldn't stand long enough to do the 10-hour critical care clinicals, I only had 5 clinicals left to finish the class.

Reading this brought a tear to my eye as it is exactly the same situation I'm going through.

No pain relief for YEARS yet not one little thing wrong with labs, scans or anything. At this point I am willing to try almost anything to gain some sort of "normal" to feel good physically.

It's so hard :(

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer. I am certainly sorry to hear that you have been dealing with so much pain. Can we give you a clear and concise answer to your pain management? I am not sure. It appears that you have had some surgery and I will assume that this is where the pain began such as you mentioned in your neck, back and so forth. I would certainly first check with your physician who performed the surgery to make certain your nerves are not pinched in some way as this will certainly cause pain throughout the rest of your body.

I know that narcotic pain management is not the answer as many physicians tend to rely on a patients pain compliant with a pill. Have you also tried any physical therapy rather than pain management?
Sincerely,
Missie
