Q:

I have a small round lesion under my tongue that is brownish in color. I'm waiting to see an oral surgeon and am very concerned. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. Seeing the physician is a great idea about this since there are too many reasons behind mouth sores to simply answer this question. If you had any sort of cut in your mouth - this could get infected pretty easily since our mouths are constantly wet which an open sores will take a while to heal. Also, mouth sores can also be a sign of a sexually transmitted disease. I apologize for not having a better answer but the possibilities are too high to provide you a direct answer. Your physician can certainly give you a better answer with observation.

Good luck,

Missie
