Q:

I just gave birth, and my dog is obsessed with my breast milk. Is it ok for the dog to have some?

The dog ate one of my babies bottles filled with breast milk out of spite, however the dog seems to love the milk.

MoonMisty0001,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thanks for posting!

While it probably won't harm your dog to drink whatever breast milk he took out of "spite", your baby needs it and the dog doesn't. It isn't uncommon for dogs to enjoy the taste of breast milk, since they were once breast fed by their moms too.

Perhaps the bigger concern is where you are storing your breast milk. You should consider keeping your prepared bottles in a safe place where the dog can't reach them-- after all, you wouldn't want to share bottles between your dog and your infant.

Bottom line: Don't worry about your dog, give it water. Save your human milk for your human baby.

Best,

Rosa
