i only bleed on one side of my tampon, and i have to change it almost every hour. is this normal?

This happens to me too, and I still find blood in my pantyliner. Based on what I've seen, a lot of girls have this problem.

I've always had normal pap smears and just recently I found out I have cysts on both ovaries and the ones on one side ruptured. I was experiencing shorter periods, painful sex, and sharp pains prior to finding this out. Now I am bleeding noticably heavier on one side of the tampon. This was never the case, so by common sense, it must be due to the cysts. Get checked for ovarian cysts. I think I got them from stress and had to get back on birth control to try and get rid of them.

my cycle since i was 16 had been irregular ( bleed about 14 days then would be off and start again) well now im 22 years old and for about two to three months ive bleed very lightly and only on one side of the tampon but j have really bad clots the last couple of months can yall help?

I have always bled on half a tampon and also noticed that when I insert a tampon it shoots off to the left side! I've always found pap smears VERY painful until a nurse told me a few years ago that my cervix is sharply on my left side. We're all a different shape down there. Note to other girls, if you notice your tampon shooting off in one direction TAKE NOTE and tell the nurse/doc/gynaecologist you think your cervix is that way when you have a Pap Smear. It makes it much quicker and won't be painful if you have a good nurse/doc/gynaecologist. I don't have cysts, or any health issues. Never have. I'm just a funny shape downstairs and proud to be different :-D

I see the question and comments are very old, but after reading the original posts and all the answers, it sounds like all the answers are dead wrong. The absorbency isn't the issue if the wearer is leaking out onto clothing. I also bleed on one side, other side is pure white, but leaks out, and I know they are placed in straight. It doesn't happen every time, but considering the response about cysts, it makes perfect sense. I had trouble with cysts 2008-2011, having four actually rupture. Therefore, I feel that might be a reasonable explanation.

I have experienced the same issue for the past few months and with further research i've figured out that it may be cause by cysts on the ovaries!!

wow this is very helpful! I have the same issue and was wrongly told multiple times to change absorbency of tampon which doesn't help. I would like to add that it is very out of date advice to say not to wear a tampon overnight. It's totally safe.

To add to this, I have always had one sided absorption and never really thought there was an issue. I asked my Gynecologist about it several years ago (since I have a tipped uterus) and he indicated that this was normal as we have natural curves in our bodies as mentioned above. I honestly didn’t realize how common it was.
