I agree. It's really very common-- whether it is one side horizontally or vertically. It's important to keep in mind that the tampon is simply absorbing the blood as it comes down. Not taking it from certain places. It really just comes down to how it is absorbed on the tampon.

Don't really think that is the answer. I am almost 40 and noticed the same thing just last few months. That's why I was looking it up. she is saying on right or left (one-sided) not top or bottom. I've never seen this before now and wondered if it's a sign of a problem also.

I have had this same problem for the first time. The tampon only has blood on the left side and have been having periods for seven years now. They are never very heavy and so I always use regular or light tampons so I know that that is not the issue. Has anyone come accross new information as to the cause of this.

*** Correction: I didn't realize that they fill from BOTTOM to TOP.

So, that explains why only the bottom portion of my tampons have blood on them when I take them out. I didn't realize they fill from top to bottom. I guess I just always assumed the opposite. Thanks for the info! I was worried that I was bleeding from some place I wasn't supposed to be! :)

Anon, on the point of bleeding on one side of the tampon: What is probably happening is that because the tampon is slanted when you put it in, blood naturally flows to the bottom "side" of the tampon. That side gets saturated first, and sometimes when your flow is heavy it's going to flow through instead of slowly seeping up into the top half.

It's only when you take it out that it looks like it's just on one side. It is, but the "side" that is soaking through is the side that is facing downward as you wear it. Does that help?
