HI...
Last September I had a colposcopy followed by a cone biopsy where high fade dysplaysia cells were removed. What the doctors found interesting is that in Dec 2009 my pap came back low grade and by the time I had my follow up in July2010, the cells had progressed to high grade;is this common? Concerning? My other fear is having to go through this again. I have to admit that going through this was the most emotional and frightening thing that I had ever been through!!! I have 3 amazing children and I worry that this could come back and that I may not be so lucky the second time around. I don't know what my options are tp protect myself....hysterectomy? Bi-annual paps? Lastly, and most difficult to divulge but I do so because it has helped me to read the stories of the other women on this site, I admit my fear and anxiety. Even though my results came back cancer free, I continue to be scared of its recurrence.
Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated!
Char G.

Hi Char,

Thank you for your post! It sounds like these past results have made you concerned about your future pap results-- there is no real way of preventing cancer itself but you can be proactive by continuing your regular pap check ups along with your physicals. Have you talked to your gynecologist about your concerns? If so, what was his/her response?

Here is some more information on Pap Smear results and what they mean: https://www.empowher.com/sexual-well-being/content/pap-smear-results-what-do-they-mean

I hope someone else who has been through something similar gives you some more support!

Best Wishes!
