I take Quasense as regular birth control and have been on the pill (various brands) for at least 4 years. I missed the following pills: Saturday of week 11, and Sunday of week 12. I remembered to take Monday's (today) pill at midnight (I usually take them at 3-4pm) so I think I've technically only missed two pills. I read that Quasense can be used as emergency contraception. (I had unprotected sex on Sunday night (more like 3am Monday morning actually). Since I'm kind of stressing out now, I'm thinking I'm going to take three more pills to make four pills, and then I'm going to take four pills at noon tomorrow, which would be 12 hours after the first four as instructed. This conveniently uses up the rest of my active pills in my 13-week pack. Should I start my new pack on Sunday then? This would be a week earlier than if I hadn't forgotten any pills, but since I won't be taking any pills after tomorrow, I am thinking I should start on Sunday. Will I be getting my period soon? I'm already spotting like my period is starting and I'm wondering if that's because my body thinks I missed almost 3 pills and if it had been the end of my pack, my period would have started anyways. To sum up... should I use up the rest of my pills to take them as emergency contraception? Or should I double up tonight and tomorrow and then finish my pack and have my period next week?? Please help! I think if I don't get a response in the next few hours, I will just take the pills as emergency contraception and deal with the funky period for a couple weeks. I cannot get pregnant!

Thank you for the update about your physician's advise. We try our best to provide you the best information on our website. I have to agree with Susan that taking eight pills in one day is not recommended. Specifically, we do not recommend that other women take eight pills in one day if you have missed your pill. The recommended dose is specific that if you miss one day, double up the next day. If you miss two days, double up for two days. If you miss three pills in a row...stop immediately and restart the pill on the Sunday after you start your period.

I just spoke with my doctor. She told me that taking my birth control as emergency contraception was the right thing to do and that taking the 8 pills (four pills at first then four pills 12 hours later) was correct. She believes this emergency contraceptive was likely effective but that I should take a pregnancy test in about a week to be sure. She also told me to start my new pack of pills on Sunday (today) because I am a Sunday starter, although I might have break through bleeding.
To any woman looking for answers on ANY health questions::: STAY OFF THE INTERNET AND JUST CALL YOUR DOCTOR FIRST! If I had called my doctor in the first place, I wouldn't have had so much anxiety about all of this.
