Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

I don't know why it took 6 weeks for you to get your result. I would ask for a retest, to be sure. Generally, a positive result would result in an immediate letter or phone call. A clerical error may have been made at your doctor's office.

If you have it, and your husband was always faithful, it's possible you had it from sexual activity before you met him. It can lie dormant for years and pop up in a test at a time when your immune system is down - since you require surgery (I don't know what kind of surgery, of course) your immune system could be poor, hence the Trich result.

Other ways to get Trich aside from sexual activity are places like saunas. Unfortunately, many people go naked under a towel in public saunas and sit on a bench with their genitals exposed on the bottom of the bench - if someone then sits down with no underwear on in the same place, there can be exposure to these kinds of infections. Using a towel after another person is also a risk, albeit a slim one.

However, you can't get it from toilet seats, or that sort of thing. There has to be more intimate genital contact.

Best,
Susan

Thank you for your response as this has been weighing on my mind and I had complete foot surgery on June 20 of this year and again on November 14, the same day I received the phone call.., it has been awkward between my husband and I and I just want this situation put to rest .., I did want to be retested however I’m laid up unable to walk and I did take the medicine that she called in
