That is a very good question. Airborne bacterial infections are spread by coughing and sneezing. An infected person is considered to be contagious until optimum blood levels of the antibiotic have been reached. That can take at least 48 hours after the start of taking the antibiotic. It is very important to take the medication for the entire prescribed time; always cover the cough and sneeze using your elbow not your hand.
