Q:

If I take a sugar pill by accident and then take two active pills the same day would I still be protected?

I recently just started taking the combination pill and I accidentally took a sugar pill on Tuesday night instead of the active one. On Wednesday my boyfriend and I started out having sex without a condom but then put one on. I realised my mistake when I went to take my pill at7:00pm and I took two active pills to make up for it. The condom didn't break but is there a chance I couldn't be protected and need emergency contraception?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community before taking an emergency contraceptive.

There is no need to take an ECP. You did the right thing by taking two active pills the next day. Using a condom gave you additional protection.

Continue to take a daily active pill and no worry by being short one active pill.

Regards,
Maryann
