Q:

If my period is early and shorter than usual, should I be worried?

My last period was Aug 26, it lasted the normal 4-5 days as always. I got my period this month a week early, Sept 18. It only lasted 2 days, was gone by Sept 20. I have had unprotected sex in between periods. My question is should I be worried about any health issues? Could I be pregnant? Or should I just wait and monitor my next period?

Hello CVega522,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us for advice about your recent early and short period.

Was it a normal flow for two days? Was it just spotting? Did you have unprotected intercourse about two weeks before September 18?

If it was spotting and not a flow, this might have been implantation bleeding. That would mean you did become pregnant.

If it was a normal flow, just started and ended early, I would say wait and see what happens next month before contacting your gynecologist.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Any upset in that balance will cause changes.

Regards,
Maryann
