ask: If you had to ASK one of the candidates a health care question, what would it be?

You never know - maybe someone in their respective camps might even read this!

What health related question would you like to ask each of the Candidates? I'm picking just one question each, even though I have a hundred more!

For me:

John McCain - if your health care plan goes into force, you will allow us to purchase insurance plans nationally, instead of being limited to our respective states. How will you ensure continuity, as well as equal standards, since standards currently vary from state to state on a large scale. What is to stop every insurance company from setting up shop in states that allow less accountabilty from insurance companies?

Barack Obama - your plan makes covering our children mandatory. I agree with this but you want to mandate parents to ensure and pay for the coverage. How do you plan to enforce this policy and what are the repercussions for parents who refuse to comply, whether for religious, ethical or other reasons?

I'd love to hear a question for each candidate from anyone else!

What a great post!

I personally feel that Obama has answered my questions on his health care policy, however I wish I could interview McCain myself and have him clarify a few things....

One would be to find out how his plan would impact health care for women specifically. It sounds to me like the coverage that we largely take for granted, like for contraception, for our annual mammograms, pap smears and other tests would be at jeopardy under his plan. (Related to your question on continuity.)

I agree, what a fabulous post! Made me think twice about what I'd really ask.

I have a good friend who is in a longterm committed gay relationship, and through him I've learned all kinds of invisible discrimination they go through. I think I'd ask what would happen under each plan in a gay household -- with or without children.

Under McCain's plan, would each partner receive the $5,000 credit?

Under Obama's plan, would each partner be insured in the same way federal employees would? In other words, would they be covered as single individuals?

What if there were children in the house?

What if it's in one of the states that recognizes gay marriage? Can a national insurance company insure a married gay couple in New Hampshire but not do so in Wyoming?
