Hi-related to this, i am currently use trivora and have been on it for years now, though I have been switched by my provider to various generic brands. I missed two pills in week 2 (fri & sat and i am a sunday starter). according to my calculations, this ran on the tail end of when I'm ovulating (which was tues-wed). i followed the instructions that came with the pills (take 2 pills the day you remember and take 2 pills the next day). my husband and i had sex during the time i forgot to take my pill and after. this last time, when we were finished i went to the bathroom (5-10 mins later) and some of his ejaculation came out along with what looked like a spot or two of blood. i chocked this up to my body probably thought my period was coming since i missed two pills, but i have been feeling slightly dizzy and queasy from time to time (haven't actually thrown up or anything). i thought since i've been on bc for so long now and missing pills is a very rare occurrence for me i therefore probably am not even ovulating and the risk of becoming pregnant is very slight. especially because at that point i was almost two weeks into my current pack of pills.

I guess my question is - do you think this sounds like my body was just preparing for my period or could i be pregnant? i know time will tell, but since my period is a week and a half away i thought i'd ask....

Thank You for answering my question.
I am on Yaz, and it states to take 2 pills on the 3rd and fourth day after missing 2 pills in a row like i had done. I did follow the directions. We have had intercourse since then without using a backup method. We're married, so if it happens we'll be ok with it.
I took a pregnancy test today actualy and it was negative (5 days before my period is due "Fri") I will test again on thurs just incase.

Thank you!

Hi,
There is a chance of being pregnant, but how much of a chance (most likely slight) depends on a few other factors.

The summary (please read my assumptions below): missing pills during Week 1 and Week 3 are riskiest for pregnancy, and missing 3 pills also seems to be riskiest for pregnancy. What type of pills are you taking (we can look up the instruction sheet that comes with your specific brand of pills, to see what the dosage is and know more information. It's best to keep one of these handy!)

First of all:
How long ago did you have unprotected sex? If it has been withing the last 72 hours, you can use emergency contraception.

The greatest chance of pregnancy is when you miss a pill at the beginning or end of the "active pills" (not the hormone-free pills), which would be the 1st week and 3rd week, assuming 4th week is hormone-free pills. This is because the hormone-free interval has been extended. Does that make sense? It also depends how long you've been taking birth control (assuming this is not your first-ever pack?), and I am assuming you are talking about missing pills that are the 28-day, combined oral contraceptives?

You can also call your OB/GYN office, and confirm this information with a nurse, which I would highly recommend (especially if unprotected sex has been within the past 72 hours).

I have been on birth control for close to a year and Im in the 3rd week of my pill pack this month; however just today, I managed to miss my pill in the morning before work. I had sex with my fiance this evening before I was reminded that I missed it and took it which is now several hours later than my usual time.... should I consider and emergency contrceptive?

What you experienced is more than likely what's called withdrawal bleeding. It can occur when you forget to take your pill. I hope by now you've made up your missed pill and are back on track with taking it regularly. If you have a tendency to forget, try taking it at the same time every day, or associating taking it with brushing your teeth, or going to bed. This way, it may be easier to remember. Anytime you forget to take your pills and have sex without using a back-up method, you increase your chances of getting pregnant.
To avoid putting yourself at further risk, the packet insert that came with your pills recommends using a back-up method of birth control (condoms, spermicide, withdrawal method, etc.) in addition to taking your pills for the first month of taking them. If you forget in the future, you may want to adopt using a back-up method "just in case" and to avoid stress about this.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

i need answers to my questions please help..

okay heres my situation ive been on dianne since august 2010 and my last period was on november 8, 201o i have a 5 days period so it stopped on 13th. so supposedly i have a 7 day break but then i had a phone call from my bf that he’ll be home by the weekend so i started my new pack of dianne on wednesday 17th of november. then the following week i got hospitalized and missed 5 pills consecutively from 26th to 30. then i resumed on the 1st of december because ive read from here to continue taking the pills and disregard the missed ones. but after resuming taking pills i started to bleed and now its my 5th day, so i have 2 more pills to go and after that i will start my new pack immediately after finishing.so thats my situation
my questions are as follows:
1. is the bleeding that occured to me is a normal monthly period already?(because ive read an article also that if you messed up taking pills you will bleed).
2.will i be safe if i have sex this weekend december 9 (supposedly i have taken already 2 pills on the new pack?)
3. when will my next period occur?(probably)

thank you and i hope my questions will be answered and will be greatly appreciated
