ask: I'm on the pill but I'm late

Hi I have a question. Me and my boyfriend have sex regularly but I am on the pill. I always take my pill on time and if I fail to, the latest I take it is an hour and a half late. Just to be sure he pulls out as well. I started taking the sugar pills Sunday and it is now Thursday and I still haven't gotten my period. What are the chances that I could be pregnant?

Hi Shelbs,

Definitely. The connection between thyroid hormone levels and the menstrual cycle is mainly mediated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone, which has a direct effect on the ovary. Hyperthyroidism or having an overactive thyroid gland can cause menstruation to stop for longer periods and infrequent or sporadic periods.

Hello Anonymous,

I don't think there is a chance that you are pregnant. You stated that you take your birth control pills regularly and make up for any missed dose as soon as possible. But, it is a concern that you have not yet started your period.

Give your gynecologist a call.

Okay thankyou so much! But I did stop taking my thyroid medicine because my doctor told me to. Could that have anythig to do with it?
