Q:

I'm a virgin but my period hasn't come

I'm 16, and had my period for just over 2 years. They had been becoming more regular, and my last period started on the 5th December last year. I'm now three weeks late for my period, and I'm petrified that even though I haven't ever had sex that I'm pregnant... any advice for what could be causing this?

Hi, Anon.

Thanks for reaching out to us today.

If you are a virgin, I don't know why you'd think you might be pregnant?
During the teen years, your period may not always arrive "on time" or regularly. It can take up to two years from the time you start menstruating for your body to develop a regular cycle. Of course, all teens (and women) will be different.

Other reasons a period can be late or irregular - stress, excessive weight loss or gain, illness or excessive exercise.

Your period will most likely show soon. If you miss 3 periods or are having any unusual symptoms, see your doctor.
