Q:

Implantation cramps? Or period?

I was on the depo provera shot for 3 years. My last shot was in September of this year. I did not have a period the entire time I was on the shot. I am now on the Ortho Evra birth control patch. I'm on the off week. Where you don't wear a patch. I have very achy cramps in my lower abdomen. I had unprotected sex with my husband and I feel like I could be pregnant. We were planning on having a baby, but wanted to get pregnant closer to March. I'm just curious if these sound more like implantation cramps, or period cramps. My legs don't hurt like the usually did when I got my period, and my ovaries are fine (they usually stick due to enormous cysts I have on my left side), which is unusual.

It was only last night that we had sex. That's why I figured it was implantation. Because it usually occurs within 3-5 days. And since it's only been a 18 hours and I'm not bleeding, it seems like the more probable cause. I pregnancy test wont do any good until at least a week or two from now. I don't have insurance, so seeing my doctor wont really get me anywhere but in debt, as neither he nor my OBGYN have been able to figure out why I don't get regular periods or how to obtain them. Not that I mind missing a few months at a time.

Hi Sweetchi,

I am sorry that we cannot diagnose you on this site. We can only provide you with information. Since you are not having periods, you may want to either take a pregnancy test or go to your physician for assistance in trying to maintain a healthy regular period first prior to trying to get pregnant. This way, you are sure to understand missed periods while trying to have a baby.

The symptoms you are experiencing could be either pregnancy or menstrual so it would be hard for us to answer that question. Have you tried a pregnancy test?
