Intercourse with an uncercumcised man

I recently started dating a guy who I just realized is not cercimcised. After having sex about 4 times, I got a yeast infection. I thought maybe it had been because I hadn't had sex in a while and I was just irritated. Then when I talked to my bf- I realized that it could be possible that he hadn't cleaned himself properly and I had gotten the bacteria from him. Is that a possibility?

Hi Anon,

Yes it is possible. Men can get skin yeast on their penis and be completely unaware they are infected. This type of male yeast infection can lie dormant because the outside of the skin is about 77 degrees. But once the penis is in the vaginal canal, it can cause a vaginal yeast infection in the woman. Before the female notices symptoms, she can give it right back to the male.  But a yeast infection can also developed from other causes, like the ones I posted earlier.

Best,

Daisy

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Here are some of the causes for a yeast infection.

Vaginal yeast infections occur when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area, or when there is an increase in the quantity of yeast already present in the vagina relative to the quantity of normal bacteria. For example, when the normal, protective bacteria are eradicated by antibiotics (taken to treat a urinary tract, respiratory, or other types of infection) or by immunosuppressive drugs, the yeast can multiply, invade tissues, and cause irritation of the lining of the vagina (vaginitis). diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, and taking oral contraceptives. The use of douches or perfumed vaginal hygiene sprays may also increase a woman's risk of developing a vaginal yeast infection.

Thank you for your response, however I'm already aware of all that. I'm more curious about if perhaps the cause of my yeast info.wad because my boyfriend hadn't cleaned himself thoroughly as he is not circumcised. If that is a high probability, then I'll need to talk to my boyfriend about it...
Thank you
