Hello,
I'm a 24 years of age. I never been sexually active. My problem is, since last 3-4 months I'm having irregular as well as painful periods. Earlier I din't had periods till more than 70 days after that i had a normal but painful period. Then, exactly 30 days later it started staining, but no periods and it lasted upto about 7 days.
And now again after just 8 days, I'm having dry cramps and menstrual pain. But no normal bleeding.

what do i do? Its really scary. Is it a serious problem which might lead to a literal problem in future?? :(

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern regarding your irregular menstrual cycles and associated pain.

Basically, the menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Hormone levels play a key role in premenstrual symptoms.

Any upset in this balance will present with irregularities. A problem with the ovaries, such as polycystic ovary syndrome, can cause menstrual irregularities. Uterine fibroid can cause painful menstrual cramps and heavy prolonged bleeding.

I suggest you schedule an appointment with a gynecologist, who can give you the answer you are seeking. A diagnosis can be made with the aid of obtaining a medical history, doing a physical and pelvic exam, and ordering any necessary blood test.

Regards,
Maryann
