My family Doctor does not deliver babies so I have to make the decision to go to another Doctor after 20 weeks or see a midwife. If i go the GP route i will have one of 5 doctors deliver my baby depending on whos on call that day. If I choose a midwife I get who I choose but I also know that a midwife ant handle an emergency situation and would need to get a doctor involved if a problem arose. I heard the midwifes tend to relax the mom to be more and the mom to be is less likely to have surgical intervention if a midwife is used also less chance of having an episomity. I am leaning towards using a midwife... but i'm not sure..... any advice???

Hi,
I understand. It is good that a physician will be available in the event (which I hope will not be) that the midwife needs medical assistance. Happy to hear that your pregnancy is not considered to be high risk. Choose whomever you feel most comfortable with. I think this will have a big impact on your labor and delivery. Please keep us posted...especially when the baby arrives!
Best Wishes,

Hi kcrum,
Is there a reason why you are not under the care of an obstetrician? The decision to choose the care of a midwife versus a physician should be based on several factors. These include your age, medical history and whether or not yours is a high-risk pregnancy. You are absolutely correct, in the event of an emergency during labor and delivery, a midwife is limited and needs the expertise of an obstetrician. Are you planning to delivery your baby in a hospital? Will there be an obstetrician available in case of an emergency? Research all the pros and cons before making the decision that will affect your health and the health and safety of your unborn child. Wishing to a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery.

I live in a very small town and obstetricians aren;t available to deliver here we would have drive over an hour away. I want to have a baby in the hospital... so its either a GP or a midwife.. but if i do go with a midwife a GP will still be on hand. The only medical history i have is endometriosis but they said that so far this pregnancy isnt high risk
