Age 56 and have had hystorecomy and bladder reconstruction surgery. I have a fear of a vaginal prolapse again. Is that possible? What preventives, such as kegel exercises can I do to prevent any prolapse? Thank you for your help.

Women are generally never "too old" to begin kegel exercises, and these exercises are recommended to help strengthen and support the organs in the pelvic area. * Limit heavy lifting.
* Avoid birth canal trauma at childbirth.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has produced a helpful online brochure, discussing prolapse...the different types, areas and severity, as well as treatment and prevention options: ACOG: Pelvic Support Problems.
