I just had my left ovary removed 2 months ago, and this cycle I'm starting to feel pain around the time I'm supposed to be ovulating. I never had this pain ever prior to surgery, is it normal to be feeling this post op or is something else going on??

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern about ovulation pain following removal of your left ovary.

Did you experience this pain last month? Is the pain on your right side? Is it on your left side?

As you may already know, some women will experience mittelschmerz, which is abdominal pain or cramping that occurs mid-cycle or around the time of ovulation. Mittelschmerz occurs when the follicle, which is a tiny sac in the ovary that contains an egg, ruptures and releases the egg.
It is felt on one side of the lower abdomen, over the ovary that is releasing the egg.

Anonymous, I think you should mention this to your gynecologist, especially if the pain is on the left side and considering you never had this prior to surgery.

Keep me updated.
