Is it safe to have unprotected sex 3-4 days after my period?

I ended my period on Tuesday and was just spotting on Wednesday as a sign that my period was going to end. Today is Friday, and I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. He didn't cum inside me and I took Emergency Contraceptives right after. Am I safe?

Hi Anonymous,

This is what the American Pregnancy Association website states,
"Yes, you can get pregnant right after your period.

You are actually starting to move into your fertility window. On a typical cycle that occurs every 28 to 30 days, the fertility window is usually between Day 11 and Day 21.

Sperm can live 2, 3 and up to 5 days. If your period (bleeding time) last for 5 to 7 days, and you have sex right after that, you are approaching your fertility window.

If you stop bleeding on Day 6, have sex on Day 7, and ovulate on Day 11. It is possible that the sperm from Day 6 will be waiting in your fallopian tubes for conception. "

Anonymous, with a 24 to 28 day menstrual cycle, I think it was very safe. Please use protection.

Regards,
Maryann

I also had protectedsex with my boyfriend three days after my period off which the condom slips inside of me but luckily for me it still contained his fluid when I pulled out the condom gently and I normally have irregular menstruation but took postinor 2 after 13 hours of the act and completed the dose 12 hours later.Although, this the second time I am taking the pill but still in doubt of its effectiveness

Hello Anonymous,

Postinor 2 prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. You will know it was effective once you see bleeding.

Hello Anonymous,

Plan B is prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. Generally ovulation occurs between day 11 and day 21 of the menstrual cycle. You may have been close to ovulating during week 3 of your menstrual cycle.

You will know the pill worked if you have vaginal bleeding or your next period within three weeks of taking the pill. It is safe as long as you do not take in more than once in a one month period, and not often. It is for emergency use only.

Maryann
