Hello, i really need advice as i dont know who to ask. My son is 13 months and am a single mother so i receive income support benefit. I was planing on returning to work but due to some complications i couldn't. Now that i told them am not returning, they are on my case! Kind of forcing me to work as i dont want to leave my son anywhere yet. I am not ready. Are they allowed to do this to me while my boy is still quiet small? Please help me i need advice. Am really stressing over this and advice would be great. Thanks in advance x

Hello Anon,

I'm really sorry but unfortunately, in the US we don't get income support. What they do offer for those with low income is government insurance and an allowance for food every month. It's impossible for me to tell you if, in London, they are allowed to stop offering you assistance after your child turns one since things in the U.S are much different. Our maternity leave can be anywhere from 8-12 weeks only and in order to continue receiving support, you must show proof that you are in need, regardless of having a job or not.

Are you sure that they aren't just asking you for income verification to determine if you are still eligible?

I'm sorry I'm not much help.

Rosa
