Q:

I've been on birth control for about 3 years. How long do you think on average would it take for me to start ovulating after quitting birth control? What are the chances of ovulation if I missed 2 pills not in a row, but made up for them?

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER.
Anytime you forget to take your pill you run the risk of getting pregnant. It is hard to say how quickly after stopping to take the pill you ovulate since everyone is different. Some ovulate within a week, some ovulate a week or two later or even longer. It's also important to remember that a man's sperm ejaculated in the vagina can live up to five days in your reproductive system awaiting an egg. So I understand that's why they say there really is no "safe time" to have unprotected sex if you are not wanting to get pregnant.
