I'm not sure what's going on or what to do, and my family is no help. I'm 14. Never had sex. I had my first period on December 1st. Since then I haven't had one. Well, in January I had one, but it was 2 weeks late&instead of a regular period it was black. I've read you can be pregnant without sex but I'm still not sure what's going on. I have symptoms too. Missed period, weight gain, hormones, soreness, increased hunger, sore breasts.. I just want to know what's going on.
Sincerely, N. S. W.

Hi NSW,

Irregular periods are common in girls who are just beginning to menstruate. It may take the body a while to sort out all the changes going on, so a girl may have a 28-day cycle for 2 months, then miss a month, for example. Usually, after a year or two, the menstrual cycle will become more regular. Some women continue to have irregular periods into adulthood, though.

I'm a little concerned about the fact that youve only had one cycle and that the following one was black blood-- do you have access to a doctor that can evaluate you? That's something you definitely want to look into.

As far as pregnancy goes, you are not pregnant. If you have not had sex there is no possibility of conception.
