Can lack of sleep delay menstruation? Im already delayed for 6 days. I was given a night schedule since august and up to now i go to work at night. I struggle having a good night's sleep. Sometimes i only get to have 3hrs of sleep and max of 5or6. Can this be the reason im delayed?

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Lack of sleep should not be the cause for a delay period.  But, stress decreases the amount of a hormone (GnRH), which causes us to not ovulate or menstruate. Also, other reasons can be due to medications, ovarian cyst, endometriosis, menopause and many other. If you don't see a period, you might want to discuss it with your OBGYN.

Best,

Daisy
