i missed 2 pills in week 1 of my active pills but i took all 3 pills the next day. i had unprotected sex on the days i forgot to take my pills. on the day i took all the pills i bled a little, but it was really watery blood. i stopped that night. now its time for my period on the inactive pills and its late. i bled a little on the 4rd day of my inactive pills but its stopped over night. and then i bled a little on the 5th day but it again stopped over night.

do you think i could be pregnant or is it just side effects from taking 3 pills at once?
please help!

Hi, Laura,

Welcome to EmpowHer. I'm so sorry this is so stressful for you. It is possible you could be pregnant, since you didn't use an additional form of birth control during the 7 days after you missed your pills. It's not super-likely, because you took the 3 pills at once, which can act as a morning-after pill. But it is possible.

Have you taken a home pregnancy test? Since you are now a few days late, that's the first thing I'd do if I were you. Just to ease your mind if nothing else. Since you've had some bleeding during your inactive pills, that would lead me to believe that it's just side effects from the 3 pills at once.

If you take a HPT and it's negative, you might give a call to your doctor's office. You probably would be able to talk to the nurse on the phone and not even go in for an appointment; she or he would be able to tell you whether and when you should start the next pack of pills, or whether they would want to see you.

In the future, when you miss two pills, what you should do is the following:
Day 1 - missed pill
Day 2 - missed pill
Day 3 - take two pills (from Day 1 and Day 2)
Day 4 - take two pills (from Day 3 and Day 4)
And use an extra form of birth control for seven days.

Take care, and I hope everything turns out fine.
