Loss of appetite due to anxiety -- have lost over 10 pounds.

I have been dealing with anxiety for about a month now. At first it wasn't too bad in the sense that I was able to control it and didn't let it interfere with daily life. However, it has gradually worsened and now I feel anxious every day, and even in situations where I didn't feel anxious 2-3 weeks ago. Also, I have lost a total of 12 pounds in the last month due to loss of appetite. Eating has become a chore and I find it difficult to stomach almost everything. Another thing is that I constantly feel weak, dizzy and light-headed, even after I force myself to eat. Could there be something else wrong with me? I saw my family doctor about 2 weeks ago and he advised me to take anti-depressants. I've been taking a very small dose, as he instructed -- could all these feelings be a side effect of the anti-depressants? I have also been feeling a lot more depressed than I was before starting this medication. Last week I spent nearly every day at home, in bed, feeling hopeless and crying my eyes out.

Hi,
I suggest that you call your physician as soon as possible. Since you didn't mention what antidepressant medication you are taking, it is hard to tell you what the side effects are. All of your symptoms are impeding your ability to function normally. Your doctor can evaluate your symptoms and determine if there needs to be a change in your medication.
