In most cultures, virginity is not "lost" until you have penetrative sex with another person.

Masturbation is perfectly healthy, normal and natural. It does not cause any harm, and has many health benefits.

Your period may be late for any number of reasons, and you are still within the normal range for a woman's cycle (between 21-35 days average). Late periods can be attributed to recent illness, excessive stress or worry, new medication or medical condition. If you have no symptoms, wait and see if your period begins within the next week. Let us know when it starts!

Hi Jina

As Alison said - a hymen is not an indicator of virginity - a female can lose her hymen anytime, even as a young child - from activities. A hymen can also be broken due to masturbation but again, we cannot put enough emphasis on it: a broken hymen does NOT mean a person is no longer a virgin.

Some cultures still believe that it does - but this is based on nothing more than old fashioned ideas that are often used to judge and punish women.

Penetrative sex generally means a penis being inside your vagina, although it can also mean the use of sex toys, fingers etc, inside you.

and this will help you regarding the hymen issue:

Let me know if these shed some light on your questions!

Jina, masturbation is totally normal. People and animals do it. It's part of your sex drive and it is fine. In fact, masturbation is one way to deal with your desires without feeling like you have to have sex with someone just to get it out of your system.

There is nothing to be ashamed of, and no one will know about it unless you tell them. It does not affect your cycle or your ability to have sex with someone else in any way. Not everyone bleeds the first time they have sex. Some people do, some don't. You cannot tell whether someone is a virgin or has masturbated or not unless they tell you.

If you have not had a period, you need to see your health care provider to make sure you don't have some sort of medical problem, but it will definitely not be related to masturbation.

Good luck.
