Hi Anon

Thank you for your question! A midlife crisis is many things to many people.

Middle age to some people means more freedom from parental responsibility, advancement at work and more time to spend on themselves.

But for some it can include certain debilitating symptoms of menopause which includes hot flashes, weight gain, loss of sex drive and lack of sleep. For others it can be very saddening to see children grow up and leave home and leave a person with no sense of purpose. They may feel depressed at the thought of their own "youth" leaving. They begin to have doubts about their purpose in life - unfulfilled youthful dreams and also begin to see their own parents enter into old age, get ill or die.

What's called the "Sandwich Generation" - those middle aged people caring for aging parents and still raising their own kids, face huge pressures.

This all sounds very depressing, eh?

Some people think the idea of a midlife crisis is a Western falsity. Since we put so much emphasis on being (and looking) young in our society, it's little wonder someone may become depressed in middle age. The media might have us believe we should be sent out to pasture as soon as we hit 50! In cultures that celebrate aging and the wisdom, learning and sense of peace that it brings, the notion of a "mid-life crisis" is unknown.
So you may not be having a midlife crisis - it's just society that's telling you this!

People can become depressed or lose a sense of purpose at any age. It may have nothing to do with how old you are at all. Relationship issues happen to us at all times in our lives - remember all the drama of relationships while being a teen and into the early 20s?!

This year has been very trying for so many of us. Loss of jobs, of savings and even our homes has caused many to feel down about the future and relationships also suffer immensely due to this. This has happened to people across the board - from the young to the old and everyone in between.

What kind of relationships problems are you having? And when you mean you are craving things you haven't in years, what do you mean by this? Do you mean food? Or a certain activity? Can you explain to us a little more? We're here to help!
