Your pill is only 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when taken consistently and correctly. Anytime you miss pills, especially consecutive days, this effectiveness rate decreases, and your chances of pregnancy may increase.

Since you knew you missed pills prior to having sex, it is imperative that you make choices to prevent unwanted pregnancy and use a condom. It's really that easy! If you miss pills, you need to use a back-up form of birth control for the following 7 days.

That can be normal. Let us know if you have any more bleeding, or if your period is irregular next cycle, too!

Your symptoms are most likely due to stress and anxiety...so try not to worry! Pregnancy symptoms don't usually begin until after your missed period, so if your period was due today, you would just now be having a hint of pregnancy symptoms (if you are pregnant). If your period is due today, a pregnancy test would be accurate at detecting any "pregnancy hormones".

Missing pills, especially 3 in-a-row AND not making them up, can cause some symptoms that you are feeling, as it is all hormone-related. Your symptoms could also be PMS-related, and your period may be starting late this cycle.

Your options:
1. You know your body the best. If something really is not quite right, call your doctor.
2. If you are unsure if it is anxiety, PMS or pregnancy symptoms, wait a week to see if your period is delayed from missing pills. If your period does not begin by next week, take another home pregnancy test (and you can know that the results are 99% accurate!).

Some women do have late, or even missed, periods, and this can be completely normal. Try not to worry, take care of yourself this week so you do not experience excess stress that can also cause menstrual cycle irregularities. Let us know when your period begins, or you take another test next week!
