I missed pills in my first week of the pack and so I took two today and plan on taking two tomorrow so I will be back on track and one regularly for the rest of the pack. After this I will abstain from sex or use back up protection for the next seven days. The only problem is that I didn't realize I missed them and had sex yesterday without any other protection. Is the risk of pregnancy very high? I am on tri-sprintec birth control.what should I do?

July 16, 2010 - 9:32amThanks for your question. I was on the same type of birth control in the past. Are you usually pretty good about not forgetting to take the pill? If so, I believe you should be OK in that case, as long as it wasn't three in a row you forgot. If you did forget three or more in the first week, you probably should call your doctor's office. It's definitely a good idea to use backup for the next week at least. I also wanted to mention that in case you're not aware, it's normal to experience spotting when you miss a couple pills.

It's important to try to find a way to not forget to take those pills, maybe by associating them with something you do regularly, like brushing your teeth, for instance.
