Hi, I missed one birth control pill but I made it up the next day. However, I did have sex the day that I missed my pill, now I am bleeding...it is a little more than a week before my period...what does this mean?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for your question.

Since you missed only one pill and made up for that the next day, I do not think the early vaginal bleeding can be break through bleeding caused by a drop in hormone levels.

How long have you been taking this prescription? Sometimes, it can take up to three months for your body to adjust. As a result, your menstrual cycle can be irregular.

Contact your gynecologist and report this. Please come back and share what your doctor thinks is the cause.

Regards,
Maryann
