Hello,

I am very worried. My husband had a vasectomy in February of 2013. He received the all clear in May of 2013. We had decided we didn't want any children so he was very willing to have the procedure. I also was having so much anxiety about the possibility of getting pregnant even on the birth control pill that we felt like a vasectomy would reduce my anxiety that I was having every single month. I went off the birth control pill the end of May 2013 after the all clear. I got my regular period back in July 2013. I have had my period pretty regular every 29 days. The days leading up to my period I usually have a little spotting so that I know that it is coming.

I should have gotten my period today and still have not. I keep trying to remember how effective vasectomies are, but I am still very worried. My husband had his vasectomy done at one of the top urologist in Raleigh, NC so I feel like it was done by a doctor that knew what he was doing.
I did have a very bad head cold earlier this month and don't know if that may have something to do with the delay. Also, considering I just turned 41 could I be having some hormonal imbalances.
I called my gyno and the nurse told me to take a HPT but I am not sure that will help because I think it is too early for a correct result. Anyways, considering all these factors what do you think? I worry so much the week before my period that it affects my daily activities. I am currently on medicine for my anxiety but have not been able to talk to my therapist because we moved states. I have not found a new one. So I guess I am looking for some reassurance on the effectiveness of vasectomies.

Any help would be great,
SC

Thanks Susan and Erika,

I just took a test and it was negative. I hope this is accurate and not too early to know for sure. I appreciate your support. The other thing I am trying to remind myself is that is harder to get pregnant after 40 so that coupled with the vasectomy I am hoping that we are being responsible enough and I shouldn't go back on the pill. I guess I should also try not to read people's forums on the internet besides this site because they could not be telling the truth?? Do you think I need to take another test in a few days if it doesn't start? Also, last month my period lasted more days than usual. Could these be signs of perimenopause?
Thanks so much.

Screech,

I agree with earlier posts. Though possible, vasectomies rarely result in pregnancy. And there are many chemical processes in the body that can have an effect on your period. You shouldn't need to worry one bit!

Thanks so much Susan...yes it is due today so I guess it is not late. If it doesn't come soon are there other reasons it maybe delayed? Could it be the severe cold a couple weeks ago? I forgot to say I had a little bleeding last Tuesday but nothing like my usual period. I really appreciate your help.
