First off ill just say i havent been smart about using my bc or a backup method. I know this already. I have been using ortho tri cyclen lo for about 2 yrs. And i am not good at taking it on time. This month i really messed up. This past week i have been preoccupied with making camping arrangements for my birthday i jus really forgot to take them..out of site out of mind. I realized i on sunday the last pill i took was on wedneday. So sunday i took two pills. then monday i left my pack at my bfs so today i took another 2 pills. well we had unprotected sex the last i remember wednesday, saturday sunday and yesterday monday. well this morning when i woke an an went to the bathroom there was a lot of brown blood coming from down there.. i kno some people do have this happen before the period but i never do. My period is about 8 days away. basically im jus wondering is this bc of my missing pills? or could it be something else? ive missed pills b4 but it never messed up my period luckily.
Thanks

Hi,
The brown blood you notice is most likely "break through bleeding" from missing so many pills, and is normal.

Do you have the instructions that came with your pill pack? Please read over these instructions, as it is important to take your prescription the correct way (even if you miss pills, there is a correct way to "make up" for these). Usually, if you miss 2 pills, you double-up. When you miss 3 pills, you need to stop taking the pills and wait until your period to begin a new pack. This is typical, and may not apply to your pills---it is important to follow the instructions after a missed pill (or 2 or 3) and not just randomly double-up.

And, if you miss pills, which happens, it is very important to own up to it and make sure to use a condom so that you are still protecting yourself from an unwanted pregnancy.

have you looked at other birth control options that does not require you to remember to take a pill every day? There are some methods that you only need to remember once a month, or even once every three months!
