Q:

Missed taking 1 birth control pill, how protected am I?

I am at the end of my second week, and I took my Wednesday birth control pill around 3 o'clock pm. The following day I forgot to take my Thursday pill. As soon as I remembered around 11 o'clock am on Friday, I took my Thursday pill and Friday pill at the same time. Around 3 o'clock pm I had unprotected sex with my partner. Am I still highly protected? Or does the fact I took my pills at inconsist times will decrease the effectiveness of the pills?

Guide

Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
It takes one to two weeks of being off the pill to ovulate. Even though missing a pill does technically decrease their effectiveness, it is very unlikely that you ovulated within one day of being off the pill. You may experience PMS-like symptoms or pregnancy-like symptoms because you doubled up on the pill. In the future do not double up, simply start where you left off, taking one at a time.
