Thank you for the response. I Was bleeding for 3-4 days and then it stopped used pad a day as bleeding was not heavy...when should I start using the pills again ??Should I start the new pack or old one as it was last week of pills... 7 pills were left..should I use a back up method for coming days..or should I test for pregnancy first and then start with pills...

Hello Anonymous,

Again, please speak with your gynecologist. I do not want to misguide you.

I would think you should discard the old pack. Take an early response pregnancy test. Test in the morning and use the urine when you first wake up.

If the test is negative and it has been at least 12 days since you had unprotected sex, you can accept the results, and start a new pack.
If you must be sexually active, please have your partner wear a condom for the first seven days.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us for help.

Missing three active pills in a row, not making up for the missed doses, not using backup protection and having intercourse does put you at risk for becoming pregnant.

The daily dose of an active pills keep your hormones at a level to prevent ovulation. As levels drop by missing doses, your body could ovulate.

Was the bleeding just spotting or heavy enough to use a tampon or pad?

Check with your gynecologist. I would think if you do not have withdrawal bleeding during the placebo week, you should test for pregnant.

Levels of hCG can be detected in urine about six to 12 days following conception. That would take you to two weeks after missing the pills, which should be at or later than your placebo week.

Let us know what happens,
Maryann
