I sent the following message about a week ago...

"Hi. I've been using the nuvaring for almost a year and have never had this happen. I planning my wedding and have been under a ton of stress lately which is inturn making me extremely forgetful. I took my nuvaring out Sunday (2/20/11) and forgot to put the new one back in on Sunday (2/27/11). I remembered first thing on Monday (2/28/11) that I forgot, and put the new nuvaring in then. On Wednesday (3/17/11) I realized my ring was MISSING! I actually hadn't been feeling good emotionally the prior few day (kind of PMSy) so that could be an explaination for that. I never felt it fall out or anything. I'd had sex probably about about 3 times between putting the new ring in and realizing my ring was missing. The very next day after I realized the ring was missing I got what seemed like my period. It was very heavy to the point where I was having to change my tampon every hour and a half to two hours and was very dark in color. It dwindled and then about 3 days later it pretty much stopped all together. What could that bleeding have been? Could I be pregnant? I've heard of implantation bleeding but heard its usually only spotting and mine seemed heavier then that. Someone also suggested to me that that bleeding could have been a miscarriage? Is that a possibility? I'm worried.."

I went to see my gyno and she felt around and my Nuvaring was definitely not there. I was due for my period on Sunday (March 27th) and it is now Tuesday and I still haven't got it. My dr. told me to wait till the 30th to take a test to be sure but I couldn't wait and I took one earlier this afternoon. It was negative. I'm SORT of relieved but not fully convinced. I have major PMS symptoms which I know are often the same as early pregnancy symptom. Only difference is my breast aren't AS sore as I saw described by others. I have also has a stomach ache for the past week. I usually have constipation issues but I've been having an extra hard time going. I'm have what feel like gas pains and fullness on my stomach for the past week. I have gone to the bathroom a couple time with the help of a natural fiber powered I add to water. The Pain subsides slightly after a bowel movement but seems to come back not too long after. Could this be a pregnancy symptom? I've also had more then normal discharge. I usually have some before I get my period but this seems to be more then normal. Could that be a side effect of my period coming later then normal? Or is that a prenancy symptom too? I'm really worried. I have 2 more OTC pregnancy tests to use. Do you suggest I take another in a few days? Would tomorrow maybe be too soon? Thanks so much for your help.. I'm a nervous wrech!

Hi Maryann,

Thanks for your comment. I actually got a blood test today after taking another negative at-home test and still not getting my period. So if its negative (fingers crossed) my dr. told me to put my next nuva ring in on Sunday like I'm supposed to. So we'll see..

Hi Anonymous,
Stress definitely has got an upper hand on you. From my experience, as the mother of 3 and a nurse, a more than normal vaginal discharge and constipation are not signs of pregnancy.
For the most accurate results from a home pregnancy test, it is advised that you test one week after the expected period. I suggest that you follow your doctor's advice to take the test on March 30 (tomorrow). If you are still concerned, talk with your doctor and schedule a blood pregnancy test, which I'm that she will tell you, is the most accurate pregnancy test.
