I had unprotected sex on the 8th may but my partner withdrew before ejaculation. Because of my age 47 and worry i took map (first time ever used) , one dose only required before midday on the 9th(24 hours afer sex)
My cycle is so messed up due to hormones I have been having periods every 5.5 months for the last year.
My last show was march 31 on time 5.5 months. Took map on 9th may had a show for 5-6 days average flow( my flow is normally 5-6 day and moderate) on the 15 th may no side effects apart from tirdness ( as per normal)

I took a test after my period negative. But I am still worried a little as I do not know when my next period will be. Should I count 5.5 months from the show after taking map or from my prevoius period in march

Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
If you took the emergency contraception correctly, it will effectually prevent pregnancy. In one month, you can take a pregnancy test to be sure even if you have not had a period.

is this one month from taking MAP?
I did have a show 5 days after taking MAP which lasted 6 days and was lighter to my normal flow. Is this considered a period or the effects of taking MAP
As stated before my periods have been so irregular about every 5 months so this recent show was 35 days after my last period. So confused by all of this. Sorry
Considering sterilisation as contraception as I really do not want hormones in my system , I have not used oral contrception for 15 years so am very scared about the side effects mixed with menopause onset. Any advice x

I understand now. Bleeding a few days after taking EC is a common side effect. If you have not already taken a pregnancy test, I suggest you do. That is the only way of knowing whether or not you are pregnant.
Keep in mind that not only is it more difficult to get pregnant at your age, it is even more difficult to get pregnant without a regular period. Not having a regular period indicates that you are not ovulating every month. Without an egg, no pregnancy can occur.
The most common form of sterilization is a tubal ligation, which is always a viable option. But you need to be aware that you have a higher risks of getting an ectopic pregnancy after tubal ligation.
