Q:

My blood pressure has been all over the place. I get very dizzy and have had to pull over in my car a few times. I went to the doc. He put me on hydrochlorothazide and I am still having the problem..

When my pressure goes up my eyes get very blurry and I start having anxiety attacks. It is very scary.

I have low blood pressure. My blood pressure has been fluctuating between being 86/62, and 85/43 to 99/95. I am 50+ with no weight issues and no diabetes. I went to the ER recently and the nurse said it wasn't low, but the doctor came in and said it was low and to discontinue using Lisinopril. I called my general practioner and they told me to stop using it for two weeks. Do you think these blood pressure levels are too low.

I'm actually wondering if you have considered that you may be having an anxiety or panic attack, and that is the underlying "cause" that Diane was mentioning as a possibility? An anxiety/panic attack can have many or all of the symptoms that you have described (just in reverse order...you said the blood pressure was causing the anxiety, but perhaps it is the anxiety causing you to have a physical reaction, including your blood pressure increasing?).

It may be an option to talk with a psychotherapist, as well, if your primary doctor was not able to help you with the prescription. Please also let your primary doctor know that the prescription did not work, as s/he will have many other options for you to try.

And, it is important also to know of any underlying health conditions, including physical and psychological, as Diane asked. High blood pressure is a SYMPTOM of something, and an underlying cause should be sought by either a medical doctor, a psychologist, or both.

Anon,

Can I ask if you know what the underlying cause of your blood pressure problems are? Do you have other health issues as well?

Can you be a little more specific about what "all over the place" means? Can you give us an idea of what it is when it's low, normal or high?

Are you overweight? Do you smoke? Are you diabetic?

How old are you, Anon? And how long has this been going on?

What tests did the doctor do to determine what the problem is?

How long have you been on the hydrochlorothazide? Did you notice any difference in your symptoms at all? In other words, were they even slightly better? Were there any changes?

Please let us know a little bit more and let us see if we can help you figure this out. I want to get you some good information but I need to know a little more.
