Q:

My doc said there isnt a heart beat and I have taken pills to try and make the baby pass but it's not working. How long is it ok to have a dead fetus inside you?

I was sopposed to be around 10 weeks along when I had a small bloody clot on my tissue. I went to the docs right away. He did an ultrasound( he didnt seem kike he knew what he was doing) He asked me who told me I was 10 weeks along cause the baby appeared to be 8 weeks. I told him the he had told me 2 weeks proir that I was for sure 8 weeks. I came back the next day for another ultrasound this time done by a professional. It took her 2 mins and she said the doc would be in. The doc comes in and tells me my baby has no heartbeat. He prescribes me these pills that should make the baby come out. I inserted vaginaly and they fell out. I couldnt get a hold of him for a few days. When his office called they sent in another perscription for 3 days now and doubled in dose and now take it oraly. I was told if that dosent work then call to set up an appt to come in and set up another appt to have the precedure done. By the time this will all be sid and done this dead baby will have been inside for at least 2 weeks! I am not sure if that doc even had a heartbeat from the first ultrasound so in reality I have no idea how long this baby has been passed inside me! Im being told by alot of people that this isnt right and I could be very sick if not even die! Please help me make a better desicion!

Do not take any more of those pills. Go the emergency room of your local hospital, now. Take the pills with you and show them to the ER physician and nurses, who examine you.

I have never heard of this type of treatment.

After your reply I started to do alot more research on this method to expel the dead fetus and it is actualy very common to avoid risks (even if only minor) from surgery or a D&C. It is also quite effective. It did end up working but they give you no information with the perscription, thank goodness for the internet! I just wanted to reply to let you anyone reading this that this common and to look more in to it. I was mainly concered with the time period of which it ok and not ok to have the remains inside of you. I am still not happy with my doctor and will be transfer soon! I feel that the doctor should be handing out information about what to expect, what's dangerous, the next step if the pill does not work, how it works! I mean come on this is not something you should be going into blind!
