my husband had a blood test done and the vdrl test came positive. we did it again to confirm and it showed non reactive . Also t.p.h.a came non reactive. but the third vdrl came out to be positive. what should we conclude. what is the medication for it...

Hi Anonymous,

I am assuming VDRL that you are mentioning is venereal disease research laboratory test. This is a test for syphilis. Syphilis although with this test there can be false positives with other possible bacterial infections and since he tested negative twice and positive once, I am thinking there may be a discrepancy so you should abstain from sexual contact until you find out the source and go to the doctor for treatment. If indeed he has syphilis, it is treatable with penicillin which can be prescribed by your doctor.

hey thanks.. we showed it to our doctor and its negative after the confirmatory tests done...so no worries
