I am not pregnant and I have had pretty regular periods leading up to this .... I think it might be related to stress but I don't know. It's also lighter than my period is in the first few days.

Hi Anon!

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community!

Since you just had your period a little over a week ago I can understand why you are surprised to be starting again!

I wouldn’t panic, sounds to me like a little spotting (possibly from ovulation). Women’s bodies are very complicated and our cycles don’t always follow a routine (even if you are ‘regular’ most of the time). Stress will definitely throw off your cycle and you could be starting your period again, which wouldn’t be uncommon for women.

A lot of other things such as sexual history, age, and whether or not you are on birth control pills can factor into an unusual and unexpected menstrual cycle.

I wouldn’t panic. I would just mark down dates in your calendar and describe the experiences so if your cycle is off again next month, you can discuss it with your OBGYN. Keeping a good record of what you are experiencing will definitely help you and your doctor figure out what is going on, should you experience more challenges down the road.

Let me know if it continues or if it’s just a little spotting. This link may help you to manage your stress which could definitely be a factor. Take a look and try to get a good night's rest.

Hope this helps!
