Hi Anon,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community! Thanks for sharing your question.

I did some research and it sounds like you might be dealing with something known as Morton's Neuroma. Pain and symptoms from Morton's Neuroma usually occurs in the ball of your foot. This happens most commonly between the third and forth toes, but can also happen between other toes like two and three in your situation.

With this condition, the tissue around one of the nerves leading from your foot to your toes thickens. When this happens, it can cause sharp, burning pain in the ball of your foot, as well as stinging and numbing feeling. Some people say it sometimes feels like they are standing on a pebble in your shoe.

A few things can cause Morton's Neuroma, including:

- High heels.
- Deformities of the foot like bunions, flat feet or high arches.
- Sports like running that cause constant pressure and trauma to your feet.

Do any of the above causes possibly apply to you?

I recommend setting up an appointment with your doctor. Explain to them what you are experiencing and also mention the possibility of Morton's Neuroma.

Luckily there are treatments available to lessen your pain! Treatment for Morton's Neuroma includes:

- Therapy - Foot pads inside your shoes can help offer support and reduce pain.
- Steroid injections in the affected region.
- Surgery to remove the affected nerve.
- Decompression surgery - With this surgeons would reduce pressure on the affected nerve by cutting or treating other nearby structures of the foot.
