There can be many causes for achy legs. Osteoarthritis is probably the most common cause of pain in the knees, often due to swelling and inflammation. Sometimes lack of exercise can cause legs to ache from inactivity. So it's hard to know what is causing your pain without an evaluation by a doctor.  In the meantime, a warm compress can soothe achy legs, while ice can help with inflammation. Over-the-counter pain relievers (Advil, Motrin or Aleve) can help ease pain if you are able to take them.
